Soft, sun-blushed, honeyed as the air
So swiftly, did spring come
Amidst love lain bare
A foreign flame, with care begot --
With lutes upon her tongue she spoke
Wherein one's gentle heart lay caught
An utterance, sung with bespoke
As if she were a lone-lit star
Aflame amidst the void of night
And where she dwelt, no home was far
One haven forged beneath her light
Yet would she kindle romance bright
Forever sweet and keenly tart
Squandered in squalor, in the lost shade
Her love, for it was like a plum.
